Why you should have a Google Business Profile

Every business owner wants their website to be easily found on Google. But getting found through organic SEO is often very challenging and the process of improving SEO can take time and money. That’s why having a strong Google Business Profile is very important for small businesses, especially those with a locally focused client base.

What is a Google Business Profile?

Google offers companies a free Business Profile, also known as Google My Business, that allows your potential customers to find your business easily with a traditional Google Search and to see your company on Google Maps. Having a Google Business Profile gives customers a first impression of your business and provides them with helpful information, like a phone number, operating hours, website link and more. Prospective customers can even send direct messages with questions or tap to send an email.

Why is this important?

It’s important to note that your Google Business Profile may be seen by your potential clients before they even go to your website. In fact, a decision may be made about whether or not to click on your website, based solely on your profile and how it stacks up against other businesses. So, while the service may be free to you, don’t discount its importance in helping you get found on the web.

Are client reviews important?

Yes! One of the great features of having a Google Business Profile is that customers can write reviews of your service; and it’s very well-known that potential customers do read reviews and are influenced by those reviews in their own decision making process. Therefore, once you have established your business profile, be sure to ask your customers to provide a review if they are willing. Additionally, be sure to respond to all reviews, whether positive or negative, as a show of your responsiveness and professionalism.

What else can I add to my Google Business Profile?

Businesses can show the world what they offer by posting pictures, listing products or services, and even giving quotes and estimates for prospective clients. Another helpful tool is having a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) section on your profile where you can post a handful of common questions from the public and have answers readily available for them to read. If you’re a restaurant you can add a section that allows people to place pickup and delivery orders, make reservations and see your menu.
