FATHOM ANALYTICS

A great alternative to Google Analytics

IS SOMEONE FOLLOWING ME?
Does is sometimes feel like you’re being stalked online? You mention to a friend that you want a polka-dot umbrella and suddenly you’re seeing ads for them everywhere! Well, it’s no coincidence. Companies run targeted ads based on information collected about your age, interests, location, gender, and more. And can you guess where most of that info is coming from? Our best friend GOOGLE!

Google doesn’t charge for their most popular products like Gmail and Analytics. You’re not paying for the product… because you are the product! Google Analytics alone gathers visitor data on over 28 MILLION WEBSITES. But that information isn’t just for website owners. Google also uses that data to sell ads, like those for polka-dot umbrellas.

IS GOOGLE’S STALKING LEGAL?
Answers to this question are fuzzy. But in 2022, Austrian, French & Italian courts ruled that Google Analytics violates the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) – the European Union’s privacy law. The times, they are a changin’, which is why we have chosen to start using a safer analytics program that protects our users.

INTRODUCING FATHOM ANALYTICS
Fathom is a Google Analytics alternative that doesn’t compromise visitor privacy for data and is respectful of privacy laws (like GDPR and more). It provides a very simple dashboard to get the data you need quickly. It gives you a full picture of all your visitors, whereas ad blockers block up to half of the website visitors for Google Analytics. Our favorite part? No need for annoying cookie banners. Since Fathom collects website data anonymously, there’s no need for one of those annoying pop-ups on your website!

BOTTOM LINE
One reason for switching to Fathom is to avoid a cookie consent pop-up because it hinders the user experience. Fathom also respects user privacy and it makes sense to pay a small price for an analytics program that values privacy. HOWEVER, if you are someone who looks at your Google Analytics traffic and uses that to make marketing decisions, then Fathom may not give you all of the data you need. See an example of the dashboard below to get a better idea of what’s included.
